Our Families

The Family system is at the centre of our school ethos

When you arrive at the academy, you will be placed into one of our Families. All our Families are named after individuals who have contributed to the worldwide co-operative movement. Your Family determines who your tutor is, and who you will be competing for in the all-important Family points competition! The Families are:

  • Acland

  • Ashworth

  • Brierley

  • Cooper

  • Edhi

  • Usiri

  • Tenacity (Year 11)

You will be given a tie in your Family colours when you start with us, which allows you to show pride for your Family around the academy. You will be placed in a tutor group when you arrive at the academy; you will see your tutor every morning from 8.30-9.00am. Your tutor is someone to support you, and ensure you are fully equipped and prepared for the day ahead. Your Head of Family will also check in with your tutor group every morning.

Student leadership

There are lots of opportunities for you to become a leader within your Family. You could be a Tutor Captain or Vice Captain, representing your family at 'Family Council meetings'. here all student leaders come together to discuss things that are happening across the academy. You can also put yourself forward to become a Family Captain. This means you can represent your Family at Student Council, and meet with different members of staff to discuss changes you would like to see at the academy.

Rewards

We love rewarding students for behaviour, attendance and manners. We love to celebrate and praise your successes and also look to help you build and grow as individuals too.

We run a Star of the Week competition where you can be recognised for outstanding effort within your Tutor Group and Family. We also go on rewards trips outside of the academy, to reward and celebrate with students who have had outstanding behaviour and attendance. Previous trips have included the cinema, bowling, Chester Zoo, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers.

Positive behaviours breed positive attitudes.
